High Street (Lake District)

The summit of High Street was the objective. I began from Mardale Head and ascended High Street’s broad, East Ridge. The ridge separates Riggindale from Mardale and has great views overlooking Haweswater reservoir. The deep circular tarn of Blea water can also be observed from the ridge, making this line to the summit one of the finest walks in the Lake District.

There is an interesting history about Haweswater Reservoir, which concerns, inter alia, the controversial construction of a dam. Despite the construction of the dam being built, however, which now helps to contribute to approximately twenty five percent of the North West’s water supply, Haweswater Reservoir remains an area of outstanding natural beauty.
