The summit of Cadair Idris (Penygadair)

Romantic and dramatic, a walk of sustained beauty and variety. The Miniffordd path, which leads to the summit of Cadair Idris, is arguably one of the great walks of Wales. It was popular in the Victorian era and there are remains of an old refreshment hut, which lie on the edge of the cliffs. The crumbling remains of the hut, however, now provide shelter from the wind. Whilst walking the trail, I took a diversion and ascended the stone shoot, which has a narrow, triumphant exit. It brings you out on a col, which then leads to the summit. I have now ascended Cader Idris from the north and from the south, with both directions being recommended. Irrespective of which way you proceed to the summit, Cwm Cau is one of the finest corries in the UK.
