Ben and I had a few hours spare and so we headed for the Skyline Buttress area of Dinorwig Quarry. We both led ‘Clash of the Titans’ F6a* and ‘Plastic Soldier’ F6a*, which were good routes with neat climbing. Both routes take direct lines up the front of the buttress with ‘Clash of the Titans’ requiring a minimum of 16 quickdraws for the climb itself! ‘Plastic Soldier’, however, only requires 13 quickdraws and so it is a relatively short climb!
After this we scrambled up to the Gorbals Level, which has a large slab of slate with a soaring left-hand arête. Ben led ‘See you Bruce’ E3 5b, which has a bold start that climbs the arête itself. Wow, what a lead from Ben! I then top-roped it clean, but did not lead it, which has set the challenge for next time. Ben then led ‘Slabology’ F6c* just before it was dark, which was another awesome lead from Ben.
